Under Appreciated Series: Mark Price


Mark Price is one of the most underrated basketball players of all time. Despite being a four-time NBA All-Star and one of the best free throw shooters in league history, Price is often overlooked when discussing the greatest point guards of all time.

Price was drafted in the second round of the 1986 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, but was quickly traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He spent the first nine years of his career with the Cavaliers, where he established himself as one of the best point guards in the league.

One of Price's greatest strengths was his shooting ability. He was an excellent three-point shooter, making over 40% of his attempts for his career. He was also one of the best free throw shooters of all time, finishing his career with a 90.4% free throw shooting percentage. This is the fourth-highest in NBA history.

Price was also an excellent passer, averaging 6.7 assists per game for his career. He was a true point guard, always looking to set up his teammates for easy baskets. He was also a solid defender, averaging 1.2 steals per game for his career.

In addition to his individual accomplishments, Price helped lead the Cavaliers to the playoffs in five of his nine seasons with the team. He also led the league in free throw shooting percentage in three different seasons.

In 1992-1993 season Mark was a part of the All-NBA third team. He was also a four-time NBA All-Star, and was named to the All-Star team in 1993, 1994, 1995, and 1996.

After leaving Cleveland, Price played for the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors and the Orlando Magic. He retired in 1998 with career averages of 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game.
