Under Appreciated Series: Fat Lever

Fat Lever is often remembered as one of the most underrated and overlooked players in the history of the NBA. Despite his many accomplishments and contributions to the game, he is not as well-remembered as many of his contemporaries, and his contributions to the sport are often overlooked. However, those who saw him play and those who remember his career know that he was one of the most talented and dynamic players of his era and deserve more recognition for his basketball skill.

Lever was a point guard for the Denver Nuggets in the 1980s and was known for his exceptional ball handling, passing, and defense. He was a key player for the Nuggets during this time, helping lead the team to the playoffs multiple times. He was also a two-time NBA All-Star and a member of the All-NBA Third Team. Lever’s numbers speak for themselves, in his 10-year career he averaged 14.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. He was also a great rebounder for his position and also a great passer, he was one of the few players that could do it all.

Despite his many accolades, Lever is not as well-remembered as many of his contemporaries, such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, or Michael Jordan. These players were all part of the same era as Lever and were considered the best players of their time. However, Lever was just as talented and accomplished as these players and deserved just as much recognition. It is unfortunate that Lever’s career was not as well-documented as some of his contemporaries and as a result, his contributions to the game are often overlooked.

A major reason why Lever is not as well-remembered as many of his contemporaries is that he played for a smaller market team. The Denver Nuggets were not one of the larger market teams in the league during Lever’s time with the team. As a result, Lever’s accomplishments and contributions to the game were not as well-documented or reported on as those of players who played for larger market teams.

Fat Lever was a highly skilled and talented basketball player who, despite his many accomplishments and contributions to the sport, is often overlooked and underrated. Lever was a key player for the Denver Nuggets in the 1980s and helped lead the team to the playoffs multiple times. As a two-time NBA All-Star and a member of the All-NBA Third Team, Lever’s numbers and accomplishments speak for themselves, he was one of the few players that could do it all,
